Digital Future in Focus

After reading the article “Digital Future In Focus”, I learned that the use of desktops and mobile devices in today’s society are almost seen as opposites. Given the various age groups, certain groups prefer different forms of technology than others. As mentioned in the article, the younger generation spends a greater time with mobile devices than the older generation. The article also points out a fact in which mobile devices applications average more than double the time than desktop browser applications. As mobile devices have evolved over the years, new features have been added and allow users to view media differently. Mobile phones are also more convenient and light-weight as opposed to tablets and desktops. As mobile devices in the past did not have much to offer, in present days you are able to watch television and explore media on your mobile device. This reduces the use of televisions in the household. Although the younger generation has shifted into the mobile devices, there are still numbers in the category’s of television. This category is mainly consumed by the older generation as they have been accustomed to this lifestyle their whole life.

A finding that surprised me in the article was that Japan spends double the time on average consuming online videos than Canada. This stood out to me because Japan is not relatively close to Canada, and being a great distance apart, we do not tend to check on other countries so often. The digital future is only evolving and expanding for years to come.
